![]() ![]() ![]() View The Woodlands Waterway Transfer - July 2023 To enhance oversight and management of the Waterway, a Waterway Supervisor position was added to staff. This year, $400,000 was allocated for five months (August through December 2023). In preparation for the conveyance of the Waterway, the Township set aside funding in its five-year budget plan starting in 2019. The conveyance of the Waterway to the Township is the culmination of years of planning, going back to the 2008 Waterway Maintenance, Use and Operations Agreement between The Howard Hughes Corporation and the Township, through their predecessor entities. The Woodlands Waterway was created as a unique private/public partnership involving The Howard Hughes Corporation (formerly The Woodlands Development Company), Houston-Galveston Area Council, Texas Department of Transportation, Brazos Transit District, Federal Transit Administration, The Woodlands Road Utility District, The Woodlands Township (formerly Town Center Improvement District (TCID) and The Community Associations of The Woodlands), Montgomery County and the Town Center Owners Association. With the concept having dated to 1972 and opened to the public in 2002, today, The Woodlands Waterway is a historic landmark of the community winding through Town Center connecting its greatest attractions, including fine dining, performing arts, upscale hotels, recreational activities and more.
